TWO MEMORABLE TRIPS
WERE AMONG THE MANY
HIGHLIGHTS OF A BUSY
AND PRODUCTIVE YEAR.
In March, Year 7 visited the ‘Home Futures’
exhibition at the Design Museum. They
were presented with innumerable ways in
which designers of the past had imagined
the homes of the future. There were nests
and lip-shaped sofas to climb in and on, as
well as plastic marvels, such as the portable
office, to ponder. Back in the art room, a
thematic project entitled ‘Home’ resulted
in a wide array of individual interpretations
of the subject-matter, including some
imaginative sculptures and detailed
paintings.
Year 8 visited the Henry Moore Foundation
at Perry Green on a gloriously sunny day in

late June. The visit was part of the post-CE
programme and the pupils were able to
contemplate many examples of Moore’s
work in the gorgeous grounds, while
benefiting from a well-presented guided
tour. As an early taster for this trip, our
House Art Competition this year had Henry
Moore as its theme. Blue House won.
Work has proceeded apace in school,
with every year group making the most of
the projects on offer. Year 8 worked on an
engaging series of studies based on bottles
and Year 7 created some haunting, Arthur
Rackham-inspired ‘tree-creatures’ in clay.
A handful of talented Year 6 pupils
enjoyed our Saturday Portfolio Club, which
allowed them to extend their skills in lots
of new ways. Our visits to the College Art
Department were unforgettable, especially
the ‘fashion shoot’ in the photography

studio. Two hours has never passed so
quickly.
Nine lucky pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 had
their ‘Extraordinary Adventures’ paintings
selected for this year’s Young Art East
Anglia – well done Holly Archer, Carmen
Sumpton, Seb Viner, Xanthe Eilledge, Etty
Hayward, Mia North, Sofia Odiz, Sophia
Slay and Artemis Wild.
Finally, to Lizzy Davies, Year 8, and
her ever-evolving wall of work. Lizzy’s
exceptional creativity supported a constantly
changing display of work throughout the
year and her efforts were rewarded with a
thoroughly deserved Art Scholarship. It was
the end of a period of great aspiration but,
for her, it is just the beginning.
