2nd XV
Atti Ross came back from a head injury
in the first game of the season to lead a
2nd XV with passion and commitment.
There were so many superb
performances over the season, some
unlucky, but every player could always
be relied upon for their passion. A solid
forward unit meant that some gifted
backs could really express themselves
and this led to many players filling in
admirably for the 1st XV. The team spirit
and camaraderie were solid, and this
led to a memorable final 10-0 win in the
last game of the season against RHS.

RUGBY
1st XV Captain, Harry Bureau
1st XV
The 1st XV enjoyed an outstanding
season, winning 9 of their matches,
including victories over The Leys, The
Perse, RGS Colchester and RHS. Harry
Bureau was a revelation in the role of
captain, ably supported by his deputies,
Alex Gordon and Charlie Williamson.
South African Exchange student Connor
Evans finished as the top try scorer and
his performances over the course of the
term were of the highest quality. However,
the team’s success was built very much
on an indomitable team spirit and an
unwavering individual and collective
desire to improve. For this, they deserve
much credit and this augurs well for
2019-20 when many of the side will
return for their final year.
The expanded 7s season was a success
despite not qualifying for the knockout
stages at Rosslyn. The team won the Plate
48
THE FRAMLINGHAMIAN 2019
competition in the Northampton Saints 7s
and the Reed’s School 7s, where they beat
Felsted School in a thrilling final.
Harry Bureau was selected in the
Independent Schools’ Lambs U18 squad
for the second year, while Jake Mermagen
was named in the Eastern Counties U18
squad. Kodie Holloway was selected for
the Essex U18s squad and Taylor HeinJones and Josh Sanyang were picked in
the Eastern Counties U17 squad. Harry
Rowland represented Denmark U18s in
both 15s and 7s formats.
Co-Curricular Colours for Rugby were
awarded to: Alex Gordon, Connor Evans,
Kodie Holloway, Taylor Hein-Jones, Jake
Mermagen, Oliver Scovell, Safe Luedetkul,
Charlie Williamson and were re-awarded
to Harry Bureau.

The U16 team has worked hard this
term despite a tough fixture card. They
have been a delight to work with and
have taken on board all points raised.
The rugby being produced by the end of
term was excellent and they narrowly lost
a close match to Bishop’s Stortford and
Norwich yet were the far better rugbyplaying team (something we prided
ourselves on). The games against King’s
Ely where we put over 50 points on the
board and a close win against Ipswich
were the highlights.

U15 A
The season for the Under 15As was a
season of ups and downs. The group
managed to produce fantastic displays
of Rugby, with noteworthy performances
against Gresham’s and Wisbech school.
Throughout the season the whole team
showed true grit to improve and further
their understanding of the game. Harvey
Paffett, Isaac Powell, Thomas Yarrow,
Gilbert Keitley-Webb, and Oliver Moore
produced stellar performances week on
week, showing determination skill and
character. A thoroughly enjoyable season
coaching this group, and I wish them the
best for the coming season.
