After his National Service, Paul went to
Writtle Agricultural College, where he
obtained his NDA. He married Carol
in 1958 and they had five children. He
farmed in a large way near Lincoln; it was
heavy clay and had to be drained. It was
difficult soil, but he grew cereals, oilseed
rape and sugar beet very successfully.
He became chairman of his local drainage
board, having the responsibility for flood
prevention over a large area. He enjoyed
skiing, cricket and bowls, playing bowls
until a few months before his death. In
