Fearing the worst, I called the bailiff
for the boat and rested the rod back
on the rests. After ten minutes, and
with the bailiff on his way round with
the boat, it started to strip line once
again. After a hard battle it was in the
net, a 40lb 12oz Yateley common. It
was an amazing feeling, and probably
the best morning’s fishing I have had.
As expected, the weeks following
this, the peg started to get popular,
and getting in there was difficult. I
continued to work the swim, and I
also found other similar spots in other
pegs at this end of the lake. I was consistently getting bites each time I
went down and regularly bagging fish
over the 30lb mark. The one morning
that stood out was the last morning of
a three-night stint on which I had
picked up a few small fish the previ-
