Richworth Linear Fisheries Session
U
pon arriving in
Oxford midday on
the Monday, I was
full of excitement
knowing what was
ahead of me. I had
that buzz about me when you go
somewhere different to your usual
fishery, and could not wait to arrive. I
was heading to the Richworth Linear
Complex located in Stanton Hardcourt, just inside of Oxford. For those
of you who may not know, there are
several day ticket waters and syndicate venues making up the complex.
There are seven day ticket venues
and three syndicates on the complex,
all containing a good head of fish from
doubles up to 40lbs-plus. I was planning to fish the particular venue
called St Johns. This contains around
850 fish in 18 acres of water, with
loads of 20’s and 30’s, and at the right
time of year four different 40lb fish. I
arrived at the main car park on Monday afternoon, and I had that sinking
feeling when you pull into a lake and
can see it’s busy. I had a walk around
St Johns, and it was full of anglers. I
had a quick chat with my Friend Tom
Maker who was fishing on the main
point of St Johns, and things had been
really slow; it was not fishing well all
around the lake, and with cold northeasterly winds and rain it was not
looking good. I left Tom to it, and
decided to have a look around the
lake next to St Johns, which is Manor
Farm Lake. This is a smaller lake of 14
acres, but similar to the adjacent lake
it can produce some terrific catches.
It is estimated to contain 450 carp
with around 25 to 30 different 30lbplus fish, with two different 40’s,
again at the right time of year, one of
these fish being the absolutely stunning Birthmark Linear, although this
is normally caught at upper-30’s. The
other is the mighty Cut Tail, which
again is an awesome fish. As with all
(Above) A typical Manor mirror of
24lb 2oz.
(Below) First fish and off the mark not massive by any means, but a
gorgeous common of 17lbs, and I was
well pleased.
