Stalking Rigs
andTactics
By George Loughlin
A
s I am writing this
at the tail end of
April, there have
been two major
happenings in my
life, firstly, there
was the passing of St. George’s day, a
day of national pride and a celebration of all things English, and with it
being my birthday, it saw me take the
age-o-meter round to the number 38,
and now I’m only two years away
from officially becoming old! LOL!
The second and sadder of the two
events was the death of a good mate
and neighbour of more years than I
care to remember. James Giles was a
loveable rogue with a passion for the
ladies, fast cars, and motorbikes, and
he was also a casual carp angler who
enjoyed the odd overnighter, and was
happy to catch anything that swam in
the lake. On April 21st 2008 at 10pm,
James was indulging in his passion of
motorcycling on his beloved Suzuki
GSX-R1000, when he was taken from
us by unfortunately colliding with a
car pulling out of a pub car park, causing him to sustain horrific fatal
injuries. This untimely event extinguished the twinkle in his eyes, and
finally ended that infectious smile,
which made him so popular with the
ladies! If you are reading this mate
from the other side of the pearly
gates, it was a pleasure to have had
you in my life, and I know you will
have left a chasm in many people’s
lives. Wherever you are now mate,
make more time for the fishing and
who knows, perhaps Bazil, Mary,
Jack, Lester’s, and all the other carpy
leviathans that have already left this
world are swimming in a venue near
you, ready to be caught. At 27 years
old, you were taken in your prime, but
I just hope those female angels have
got plenty of libido; they are going to
need it when you are around! Rest in
peace mate, I’ll always remember
you.
Well, this month will see the start of
many venues opening their doors
after a brief closure adhering to the
close season, and if you have been
fortunate enough to walk round your
chosen venues during the close, you
will have probably encountered carp
