Over £8.3k has been raised for The Second Chance
Charity by Farnham Angling Society’s members
The 24-hour Jack Frost Memorial
Charity Pairs Match was fished at
Farnham Angling Society’s Badshot
Lea Big Pond on the weekend of 19th
and 20th May 2018. The match was
won this year by Rob Szewciw and
Sarah Austin with 284lb 13oz of
mostly carp. All the way to the final
whistle, they had to fight off Joe Lunn
and Dan Ibbott who finished runnersup with 218lb. Andy Cooper and John
Lucas finished in third with a
respectable 134lb 8oz.
Whilst a lot of the teams caught
carp and bream along with a few catfish making an appearance this year,
the carp proved trickier over the
weekend, as they were looking like
they were about to spawn. This year
every team banked a fish, and at any
point the leader board could have
been turned on its head by landing
one of the lake’s larger fish.
The specialist prize for biggest carp
was taken Sarah Austin with a 20lb
4 FREE LINE
common carp. Ashleigh Boxall managed to take a prize for biggest bream
of 7lb, and the biggest tench of 5lb 4oz
fell to Ben Cockram. The biggest fish
of the event was a Catfish of 23lb 7oz
caught by Paul Davies.
Most money raised was by a representative from Second Chance Charity Paul Stevens who raised a staggering £5,000. As a collective, the anglers
have raised £8,330, as I write I am still
collecting even more. This year the
event was set out a lot better and is
the biggest charity match to date
with a record 20 teams fishing.
Match organiser Jon Hyatt
explained that the annual match had
raised over £42K since it began in
2001, and this year had raised £8,330
for The Second Chance Charity
including £330 raised by a donation
from The Tenchfishers at their Mill
Lane fish-in. Additional funds were
still being raised, which was greatly
appreciated by their fundraising team
as they continually work to raise
funds to maintain the superb work
done.
A massive thank-you goes to all
who took part, and also to Trevor
Hopkins who marshalled the event
and assisted with the organising on
the day, which helped this year and
made a massive difference in weighing in fish and photographing those
caught.
We would also like to thank the
companies who donated prizes to the
event: Farnham Angling Society,
Gardner, Fishing Republic, Hampshire
Tackle, Tackle Up Fleet, Bordon
Angling Pentangle, Backhurst Bait
Supplies, Willow Park, Raisins/Gold
Valley, Carp Particles UK, Crowthorne
Angling, Eric’s Angling, Assassin
