cabin on the far side of the specimen lake
which houses a small solar power station
for charging phones, tablets, etc, and
anglers booked on to Harry’s Lake can
charge their items at the house as well.
The cabin is only for use for anglers
booked on to Compton’s Lake, which
also has free WiFi for checking emails and
social media. Harry’s Lake does get a
limited WiFi signal and there was even a
signal available up at the shower room.
We highly recommend a visit, as they
really are great people. We were made to
feel so welcome, and you will be in great
hands when fishing at Compton’s. The
fishery feels homely right from the off with

Compton’s Lake’s 2018 by Jim Smith
My second session on Compton’s this year, after being invited back by Mark and
Leanne for five days’ carping, resulted in some very memorable moments. Having
fished the main lake last July on a lake exclusive accompanied by my wife and
catching some stunning hard fighting carp, Mark let me name a couple of the fish
caught during that session, and I’d named one of them after my good lady,
‘Crackers’. My wife passed away at Christmas 2017, and in March of this year, I
returned for a week’s session with Mark to bank 63 carp. I brought some of my wife’s
ashes, which I scattered in a couple of very special places on the lake. Returning
again this year and then catch Crackers at 44lb 9oz from a little magical spot was
simply fantastic and brought back so many great moments from last year. I look
forward to catching more of the named beauties in this lake again on my next session
in July of this year.
welcoming you. Harry’s Lake is the
perfect place for either a father and son
trip or for the first time carp fishing in
France, whist the specimen lake
(Compton’s Lake) is hard enough to test
any angler’s skills. Mark and Leanne have
taken the time to auction off a fishing
session for charity whist Mark’s military
background has the RAF carp team over
for some good practice during the year.
Also Mark occasionally has friends over to
help on the odd work party to incorporate
with a fishing social, as all work and no
play makes life a bit boring, so fingers
crossed we get an invite back one day…
An old abandoned cart covered in plant
life just added to the ambiance of this out
of the way fishery – it’s the little things like
this, plus the peace and quiet and
tranquillity that make Compton’s an
outstanding venue.
During our short time at Compton’s
Lakes, we were lucky enough to get into
some very hard-fighting carp from Harry’s
Lake and one carp each from Compton’s
Lake, but were blessed to see Mark and
now good friend Jim Smith catch a few of
the main lake’s upper 40lb carp, with Jim
landing a very special carp for him and
just one of the anglers that now have a
special connection to this beautiful
fishery… Left is Jim’s account of
Compton’s Lakes..
