A Full Moon Cracker!
to wait until 6.15pm for the same rod
as before to go. At first I thought it
was a liner as the line pulled up tight,
but then it pinged out of the line clip
and slowly started to take line. On
picking up the rod and feeling the
fish, I immediately knew I had a
good’un on, and it could only be one
of three.
The fight was a slow, plodding one
with the fish moving from left to right
in the deeper water. As I gained line
and got it into shallower water, the
fish tried to go to my right towards
the shallow bay, but after a bit of side
pressure I soon had it back in front of
me. I waded out in the shallow water
with the net, and at the first attempt I
netted one long, big common that virtually filled my net. It could only be
one fish – the big one.
I signalled over to a bailiff by the
name of Paul who was fishing opposite in the car park swim, and on his
arrival he confirmed that it was
indeed the big common, and she
looked big! I rang Luke who thought I
his help the previous night, then
pulled out of the gate.
On arriving back home I sorted my
gear out, had a shower and a shave,
popped into the Nash office, then
headed off over to Cleverley for the
weekend. When I got to the lake I
found it to be packed with only a couple of swims free. I dropped into the
swim known as Gav’s, and fished
through to Sunday evening but didn’t
have anything.
To be honest I couldn’t have cared
if I caught or not; it was just nice to
chill out for the weekend. I may go
back to the lake during the winter for
the odd trip, as it’s known to fish well
in the colder months, but all I can
think of now is Dinton. Hopefully I’ll
start over there at the beginning of
November, but before that I am over
on a lake called Fryerning Fisheries to
do some promotional stuff for Nash,
and then I’m off to Tenerife for a week
in the sun with my kids.
That’s about it from me this month,
so ‘til next time – tight lines. n
was winding him up; in fact I had to
hand the phone to Paul and got him
to tell him before he believed me. I
then phoned my good friend Matt,
and on letting him know, he informed
me he was only five minutes away
and would do the pics. Paul and I
weighed her, and on the scales she
went a whopping 43lb 10oz! I
couldn’t believe it; my first 40lb common and my latest target fish, but
better than that it had only taken me
nine nights in total into my latest
campaign. I sacked her up in some
deep water until Matt turned up, and
once he arrived we set about doing
the pictures. After a few water return
shots I returned her, and I sat on my
bed trying to take it all in.
Luke turned up a while later, and
we celebrated with a few ciders and a
bottle of vodka that he brought with
him. I packed up the following morning, and as I put my things into my
van, I still couldn’t really believe what
had happened. I stopped off at the
Car Park swim and thanked Paul for
