In Search of Monster Carp

of November 2008
and Pete has kindly
invited me back down
to his house in Goring
on Sea, a beautiful
part of Sussex. The regular readers of
Big Carp will remember that in the
spring of 2008, I came down to visit
Pete and recorded a series of seven
articles depicting the life of this great
angler. We went right back to the
early days on Darenth, and on to his
many great achievements on a variety of waters. It has been a fantastic
series, and I did say at the time that I
would be down later in the year to
catch up with Pete again, firstly to
have a look at his 2008 season. Most
of you won’t know what has been
going on with that, but he’s been fishing one water in particular, Korda in
the Colne Valley, a water run by the
BCSG, a fantastic little lake. I remember when I was fishing in the Colne
Valley way back in the mid 80’s, there
were a few fish in there at the time,

but because of its proximity to Savay,
Harefield and all the other great
waters in that area, it was virtually
unknown. No one really fished it
much, but Pete’s done well down
there this season.
Before we get on to Pete, I just cast
my memory back to the first trip I had
down there, which was in the spring
of 2008. I remember getting in my car
in the morning; it was a bright sunny
day, but it was bloody freezing. I
