James Scherer with one known as Harry from Horton’s Crayfish
Pool.
Both fish fell to the same setup, using a Spotted Fin 22mm wafter
on a blowback style rig. Around 5kg of crushed and whole boilies
with various size catalyst pellets was Spombed out at 54 yards
where I had seen a few fish top, and it was only a matter of a
couple hours before the first run. The reason for using a big
hookbait is mainly because I don’t think many anglers do in the UK,
and it’s a little different. It also makes it a little more difficult for
the carp to deal with, so as long as the mechanics of the rig work,
as in the hook flips instantly, it’s a winner. To be honest, even a size
22mm is small compared to the size of a carp’s mouth. I may even
add paste to the next one.
