Wessex Water Challenge press call – 10 am on 15
February at Hawkridge Reservoir, Somerset
Fishing for Schools founder and director Charles Jardine is undertaking a
24-hour fishing and running
marathon – The Wessex Water Challenge – on 10th March to raise money
for Fishing for Schools and its sister
charity Casting for Recovery.
Charles will be at Hawkridge Reservoir at 10am on 15th February to talk
about the challenge and his work
with Fishing for Schools. Please come
along to speak to him and learn more
about the project. If you would like to
attend or to interview Charles at
another time, please email charlottecooper@countryside-alliance.org or
call 07736 601750
The Wessex Water Challenge
Charles will start fishing at Clatworthy Reservoir in Somerset, on a mission to catch a trout. That done, he
will run the 14 miles (a half-marathon)
to Hawkridge Reservoir, near Spaxton, where he will catch another
trout.
Then comes the really hard part –
his next fishery is Sutton Bingham,
around 46 miles away. Charles will
run there through the night in order to
net another trout by 10am on 11th
March.
Charles, 65, from Downton, Wilts, is
an international fly fisherman and
nature artist and coaches the England
Youth Fly Fishing team. He has run
the London Marathon three times but
says this is by far and away his
biggest challenge. He intends top
raise £9,000 for the two charities with
this effort.
What is Fishing for Schools?
Fishing for Schools was set up by
Charles ten years ago, which introduces children to fishing and nature
through short courses which are integrated into the National Curriculum
and Casting for Recovery, which
offers healing fishing retreats to ladies
who have or are recovering from
breast cancer.

All three fisheries that Charles will
be visiting belong to Wessex Water,
which is helping to sponsor the event.
Charles added: “I really believe in
what we are trying to do with Fishing
for Schools and Casting for Recovery.
Angling can have amazing, restorative results for the young people we
work with, many of whom have had
really challenging starts in life and
find school so difficult. And the
results of Casting for Recovery are
truly inspirational.
“By sponsoring me you will help
ensure that many more people can
benefit from these amazing initiatives.”
