certed effort at catching the Richmond Park fish, the Royal Forty. It was
quite busy in the closed season with a
lot of people baiting up, and the
amount of bait that went in was mental. I on my own put probably about
160-200kg of bait in, obviously not all
boilies – bits of particles, pellets and
stuff like that. Having seen the fish
being well active in the closed season
everyone thought it would be out first
day of the season, but we were all
proved wrong. Six days into the season my mate Alex West caught it at
48lb 8oz, a new lake record, and cor,
what a fish! I got the phone call from
him at 2am; he had it at night, as
quite a few captures of it over the
years have been, but fair play to him.
I was blown away for him; I was on
the wrong side of the camera, but I
just knew then it was one that I really
wanted to catch in the future.
Around August time I didn’t really
fish that much, and I think it was the
beginning of September Barney and
