Wherever I Lay My Mat
maggots), I’d had nearly all my carp
on maize, tigers, pop-ups and the odd
one on boilies, so it was time for a
change. October was here, I was due
to fish a social on Sandhurst, and it
was time to unleash the mag-aligners
once again! The magic wriggly rig
didn’t let me down, and I had a couple
of 20’s for my sins. That was it for
October really; I didn’t manage to get
out much more, but enjoyed the
November came round quickly, and
I remembered that I had two social
trips planned, both of which I was
really looking forward to. The first was
to be on club water with a mate, Benji,
who I hadn’t seen for ages. For the
second trip Dave, Ads and I had
booked Burghfield Blue Pool for two
nights to celebrate my birthday, so it
looked to be a good month for socials.
As the first of my socials approached
I received some bad news. The day
before we were due to go, Benji had
come off his bike and was in plaster,

on a social down at Sandhurst. I
phoned Dave to explain the situation,
and to see if he minded me gatecrashing their social. He told me I was
more than welcome, but not to expect
much as there had only been one
double out since the weekend. After
purchasing my ticket from Yateley
Angling Centre, I made my way down
to the lake. I had a quick chat with
Dave, who explained that although

received quite a few liners on his right
hand rod. With nothing else to go on
other than the liners on Dave’s right
rod, I asked if he minded me going in
the peg to his right. He didn’t, and
said, “Fill your boots, mate.” I had a
quick lead around, and found some
gravel at around 80yds. At 70yds
there was some silt, and at 60yds
more gravel. “Silt it is,” I thought, and
