Unknown Forties Extra
Last month we had a special ‘Unknown Forties’ issue. Chris Jarvis just
missed the deadline with this stunning Horseshoe upper forty, which he
kindly emailed to us. It was too gorgeous to leave out, so here’s an ‘Unknown
Forty Extra’.

Arrived at 8am walked around lake and saw 4/5 good fish showing in one
area. Set up in swim and watched fish showing over one spot, flicked marker
out to see what was out there as only my seventh night on that lake.
Found gravel bar that run 75 yards so fished to the back of it in a slit
pocket, put 2 gallon of maggots, hemp and corn to the back of the bar in a line
6 ft long where I dropped a rod on either end of the baited area. Had an 18lb
common within two hours of being there. Started having loads of liners – had
to bring the rods in and dash of to the tackle shop to re stock on bait.
Put rods back out and started to spod, had a drop back on the cut down
pop up & maggot rod which resulted in Patch at 46lb 1oz. The top ring of the
rod got weeded and had to walk back to grab the line to pull the fish into the
