A Special End to a Season
W
hat a right old
mixture of
weather we
have had this
last month
once again,
but at least now, on April 7th, as I sit
here writing this, it looks bang-on
outside and I hear there have been a
few fish coming out across the country including the Parrot at 60lb-plus.
As always I’ll start off with any captures that I get sent from friends and
this month I have had a couple sent to
me by my old mate Neil Haynes. Neil
has been plugging away all year on
Dinton Pastures’ White Swan Lake,
and as the season drew towards its
close he managed to catch a couple of
crackers from the tricky little venue.
First off was a stunning little 24lb 8oz
mirror, and then he had a 35lb 8oz
common that as far as can be worked
out had not been out for around seven
years when it weighed 28lb. Finally he
had a 29lb 8oz mirror on a zig after

watching them just under the surface
in front of him for a few hours. He
stuck at the zigging despite both
Matt Eaton and me winding him up
all day and giving him a hard time. We
even suggested he quit fishing and
take up golf! Matt informs me that it
was a good bit of angling though and
he knows we are only ever messing
about with the wind-ups.
I’ve not had any other captures in,
so it’s on with my diary and what I’ve
been up to this last month. At 5am on
the Monday morning after the Carpin’
On show, I was on the road and heading off to Richmond Park to start my
short end of season campaign after
the Royal. Well, the journey was a
