New ambassadors pledge support for Angling Trust
The Angling Trust are delighted to
announce the support of our two latest ambassadors – Hassan Khan and
Marina Gibson.
Marina is already an active ambassador for the prestigious Orvis fishing
company, Atlantic Salmon Trust and
Fishing For Schools. She is on the ‘Ure
Salmon Group’ committee where she
volunteers to support and help
fundraise for the River Ure conservation projects and hatchery.
A certified ‘Fly Fishers International’ (CI) Instructor and 1st4sport
Level 2 coach, Marina is also a freelance writer who hosts trips worldwide and guides in the UK. She competed in her first World Championships in 2018 in Millom. She made
the finals for both the Women’s Spey
events, ending up in fourth place for
both and currently holds the UK
record for Ladies 15 1 Spey distance
with a total of 79.5m.
Marina is Founder of the Northern
Fishing School and through this
wants to introduce as many people as
possible to the magic of fishing –
whatever their age – as the fun,
affordable, perfect antidote to stress
and the best way to escape the daily
Marina is clear about why she is
supporting the Angling Trust: “I feel
privileged to be working with the
Angling Trust who are at the forefront
of improving fish welfare and campaigning for a better and healthier
aquatic environment, as well as promoting the sport to newcomers. As an
ambassador who is passionate about
getting more people fishing and outdoors, my main focus will be working
together with the Angling Trust to
introduce more people to the sport
and the great outdoors, as well as
partnering up to offer free fishing
days for charities.”
Mark Owen, Head
of Freshwater for the
Angling Trust, commented: “Marina is
having an exceptional career as an
angler and is well
known for her
involvement in protecting and growing
our sport – in particular her ambition for
the Northern Fishing
School and the
impact she is trying
to have for fishing.
We are very proud to
have Marina as an
ambassador and look
forward to working with her even
more in the future to get more people
into fishing.”
Hassan Khan has been a keen
angler for 25 years, starting off coarse
fishing on the canals, lakes and rivers
of Leicestershire with his dad before
progressing to match fishing. Next
came fly fishing, which saw Hassan
test his skills – self-taught, no less –
on Midlands reservoirs such as Eyebrook, Thornton and Rutland Water.
Once he’d got his driving licence,
Hassan began fishing for big carp at
venues all over England, including
Bluebell Lakes, Stanwick Lakes and
Ringstead Carp Fishery. His current
UK PBs stand at 52lb 4oz for mirror
carp and 41lb 5oz for common carp.
When he’s not chasing carp, Hassan enjoys lure fishing for pike and
perch and heading abroad to try his
luck with more exotic species, such
as marlin, sailfish, Nile perch and
Mekong catfish.
In 2014, Hassan became presenter
at CARPology, the world’s largest
carp fishing
media group. He
has also worked
on several other
presenting projects including
the BT Sport
British Carp Cups
and the episode of
Fishing TV’s Carp
Wars entitled
‘ H a r r y ’s S t o r y ’ .
Hassan now
heads up Angling

media marketing.
Hassan and
Angling Direct have recently worked
in partnership with the Angling Trust
to train 20 angling coaches with bursary support from the Angling
Improvement Fund, which is funded
by the Environment Agency from
fishing licence income. Once qualified
and licensed, these coaches will offer
expert advice and coaching opportunities to Angling Direct customers
and support to the Angling Trust ‘Get
Fishing’ campaign to recruit new and
lapsed adult anglers back to the sport.
Hassan said: “Angling has given me
so much throughout my life, I’m
extremely privileged and fortunate to
have a career within the industry. In
my opinion every angler has a responsibility to protect and promote our
beautiful sport to ensure its secure
future. Supporting the Angling Trust
is a key part of this for me as collectively working together we can
achieve much more, all for the wider
and greater benefit of angling as a
Clive Copeland, Head of Participation for The Angling Trust, who
worked with Hassan and Angling
Direct on the recent coaching project
commented: “Anyone who knows
Hassan will be aware of his dynamic
personality and of his passion and
enthusiasm for everything angling
“The Angling Trust is incredibly
pleased that Hassan has agreed to
become an ambassador and use his
considerable influence to support our
work to increase participation and to
protect the future of our sport. I’m
really looking forward to working
with him to achieve these important
objectives.” n
