Look andYou
Shall Find
A Tale of Three Forties by Rob Morris
ell, it feels like
that I sent in
the last article to Mr.
Maylin, but
thinking about it I reckon it is a
bloody year! Time goes so quickly
(the big 40 this year, so old that I can
remember when the Dead Sea was
just feeling a little pain in its chest).
Work, kids, wife, angling – if I had 30
hours in a day I would still be on the
run all day! I would not have it any
other way though; I love my family
time and it makes me really get a
buzz out of any fishing time I get!
As I write this the date is the 7th of
June, so with the current light levels I
can’t enjoy life more! I think I shall get
up at 3.30am tomorrow, one hour to
the pit and I can be stalking by
4.30am, only having to pull off at
7.30am as I have to be at work for
9.30am! Mad, but when you need a fix
nearly every day then it has to be
So what of the last year? Well, as
the title suggests, it’s been a year that
has been great on the angling front –
a season that has seen more lumps for
me than ever before. I had a repeat
capture from my local lake, but hey, it
was off the top and it just looks great
at 40lb-plus. Also I had not such a
great looker, but a new PB all the
same (but not my cup of tea if I’m
honest), again at 40-plus. The title
says three though doesn’t it? And
that’s the one that has given me the
biggest buzz! I was not the lucky captor of this 40lb-plus common but I
was involved as a spectator in watching some of the best angling over
many weeks! The buzz comes from
the fact that the fish is not the biggest
common in the 150-acre pond, and
not the biggest carp by a long shot! It
was very exciting stuff (I have not
been this excited since I dreamt I was
Kelly Brooks’ personal fitness trainer).
I will not be naming the venue as
three of us have more business on
there! The great news is that the guy
in question (sounds just like Robbie
Williams, and pulls more strokes than
a swimming gala) has agreed to share
the story in Big Carp mag along with
30 years of other stuff including hundreds of 30s, many 40s and even a 50
thrown in for good measure! Wow! I
have heard the stories and seen the

tell at school.
