My nephew’s name is Lewis, and he has been a fanatical carper from
the age of six. Picture 1 is of him when I took him for the first time. This
year, I was able to take him over to France for a week’s carping, and as
you can imagine, excitement doesn’t cut it! He has always loved
making rigs – this year he was using cog systems – making them into
free running rigs by crimping the rig slightly. On the trip, he decided to
use a mix of 18mm and 15mm boilies. He tied all his own rigs, a mix of
18mm snowman with a small coloured 8mm pop up and 15mm KD-rigs
with a 15mm pop-up. He chose his own swims, and laid a good spread
of your boilies and a mixed particle. On his second night, he caught his
first 40lb common (picture 2). On his third night, he caught his second
40lb common (picture 3), and on his fourth night, he caught yet
another! This one, now his PB was 42lb 8oz (picture 4). As an uncle and
a big carper myself, you can imagine how brilliant this achievement is.
I’ve also put a picture of him holding his fish out of a big spread of lilies
(picture 5). For any validation, we were fishing Hooked in France,
which has a new owner, Simon Wood – and he buys his bait from you!
