Road Lake Remembered
a creamy yellow belly, and Dan and
Jason thought might have been the
Pug. I handed Jason the rod and went
about getting the mat, scales and
camera ready. I could hear Dan and
Jason talking about Clover, and in
unison they pronounced, “It’s Clover,
mate.“ All of sudden my head went
into a spin, as Clover was a fish I had
always wanted to catch. Dan passed
me the net and we gently laid her
down on the mat. She looked awesome, still in her winter colours, and I
was shaking so much that Pete had to
unhook her! I regained my composure
and with most of the syndicate present, we weighed her in at 42lb 12oz
and did the photos before I released
her into the margins of the Secret.
After much hand shaking and slapping on the back, I was left to reflect
on what had just happened. I made a
brew and wandered up to Jason for a
chat. I didn’t really have my fishing

dispatched alongside the sunken
island and went down with a dull
thump in the silt. The rigs were the

usual combi links with critically balanced tigers and hemp sticks frozen
around the rigs. We all then congregated for the end of season BBQ and
a few beers. We were all mid celebration when a buzzer screamed out into
the night – it was mine. I nipped the
short distance back to the rods and
amid a lot of wind-ups from the rest of
the lads, landed one of the Sutton
stockies at 21lb 6oz. The rest of the
night was quiet on the fish front, but
we all had a good social and toasted
the end of the season in style. n
