Woolpack Pit 5-6 – The Carving Exclusive
in the area I was going to fish. I carried on around the lake and had a
chat to a couple of anglers. Still
unsure if I was staying, I decided to
drive up to St Ives and have a look
Meadows was full of big floating
weed beds, and I only had my light
mono on my spools, so I headed back
to the Woolpack. I got the gear loaded
and headed to a corner on Pit 6. Several coffees and smokes later, I had
seen enough to set up. Three spots
found, and it was time to chill. At
00.30, the left hand margin rod signalled a take. On playing the fish, I
was convinced it was a big tench or
small stocky. Fish in the net, head
torch on, and I was greeted by a large
common. I unhooked and weighed it,
placed it in a retainer and went and
got a fellow member for some shots.
We were both confused, as there are
only a few big commons, and this fish
was looking like the Carving, but that
had died in March… Well, it turns out
the Carving is alive and well at 41lb
6oz, caught on the More Takes Fruit
and Nut! n
