I still had two nights to go.
Chilham is like most lakes with
prime bite time being from first light
onwards so I was up nice and early
sat watching the water. The wind had
strengthened as the tail end of hurricane Dorian blew through creating a
good chop which was putting plenty
oxygen in the water. It wasn’t long
before fish started to show in front of
the willow again, so I was feeling confident that the rod would go at any
moment. It was 8.30 when the buzzer
burst into life with a slow steady take
and I lifted into what felt like a good
fish kiting hard to the left. Slowly
gaining a few yards of line the fish
decided to go on a strong determined
run with the drag singing as it
stripped line from the reel. Heading
down the lake into staffs and still
going left towards an aeration windmill that sits on the corner of an
island, if it gets behind that I’m
stuffed so piling on the pressure I
