n February 2019 I had a 72
hour session booked on the
great day ticket venue which
is Elphicks Fisheries. I arrived
at the North Lake and I heard
that the dam end of the lake
had done a few and the guys were
leaving so I opted for the 1st swim on
the field bank as I saw a fish show.
I took no time in flicking out a couple of light leads and found spots for
all 3 rods, got them wrapped up with
small wafter hook baits on and got
the rods in position. I put 4-6 spombs
over each rod of particle and boilie
crumb and within 15 minutes the
middle rod was receiving line bites
and it wasn’t long before I had my
first one of the session, a lovely Scaly
31lb 6oz.
44 Big Carp
fish of 18lb. I applied a fresh rig and
hook bait and recast the rod as well as
topping the spot with another 4
spombs of bait.
Time was starting to get on at that
point so I topped up both the other
spots with some more bait just before
dark. I then sat down and rustled up
myself something to eat and got my
head down for the night. The night
was cold dropping down to around -3
but right on first light the middle rod
was away again, this produced a
30.12 ghostie mirror. It was a good
sign and gave me confidence going
into the day.
The day was slowly passing me by
with no signs of fish, after having a
quick catch up with my brother who
was fishing a couple of swims down
to my left, I decided a move was
needed as I saw a fish crash down the
other end of the lake.
I took no time in winding my rods
in and getting them and the net down
the other end of the lake, after a brief
scout about proved it was pretty clear
in the swim I had to put my rods in.
I never seem to be able to go fishing light and so after a while I managed to get my gear packed away and
all my gear round to the chosen swim
getting the last rod out on the spots
right on dark whilst setting my bivvy
up quietly in the dark.
After several cups of tea and a bite
to eat my right hand rod was away at
9pm, it turned out be a 36.04 Ghost
