GARDEN HOUSE SCHOOL
Extra-Curricular: The Garden House Difference
Appreciation of the Arts is central to life at Garden House School. Original artwork by a
variety of well-known artists hangs in every classroom. We have an eclectic collection which
inspires the children to appreciate beauty in all its forms.
Our Central London location offers a wealth of opportunities to visit galleries, museums,
churches and historic buildings.
Garden House girls and boys are educated separately but retain close links to each other
during the School day, sharing the dining room at lunchtime and participating together in After
School Clubs, residential trips and many other School activities.
The Garden House School Garden is situated in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea,
a short walk from the School. It is used to support classroom work. For example, in Geography,
when the children are learning about rocks and soils, they work in the garden. In Biology, when
studying how plants grow from seeds or looking at insects and butterflies, the children spend
time in the Garden. There is an open area to accommodate a class for discussions or teaching.
Having Fun: Garden House children (and teachers) never miss the opportunity to have fun,
celebrating a wealth of events throughout the School Year including French Day, World Book Day,
Science Day and Poetry Day. Fun events running through the School year include Gardenversity
Challenge, the Maths Olympiad and Gala Night.
The Kindness Code governs the children’s behaviour towards each other. Garden House
parents, teachers and children work together to create a happy and caring learning environment.
Excellent manners and kindness to others are virtues at the very core of our teaching.
Parents’ Association: We have an established and involved Parents’ Association. Our parents
bring skills to the School, arranging events for children and parents alike. They organise class
drinks parties and disseminate information. Quiz Night is the main charitable occasion of the
year. In addition, the PA organises Gala Night and the Summer Fair.
Residential Trips include a week of outdoor activity in Cornwall, a Geography and Biology trip to
Surrey, an outward bound trip, a language and culture week in France, a Bushcraft trip, a Rugby
tour, a Hockey tour, a School Ski trip and a Drama and Music trip to Stratford-upon-Avon.
