'I Remain’
by Parissa Zamanpour
You would think having so much time during lockdown
indoors would provide ample opportunity to write a
play- instead I spent most of my time binge watching
Netflix, eating homemade bread, and having a G & T
in the garden. However, this Groundhog day routine
sadly left me feeling empty, creatively dry, and lost in
the world. After losing my job, and having to spend most
nights applying for all the jobs under the sun, my play had
been put on the back burner and my artistic world was almost non-existent.
Normally, if I had difficulties in one aspect of my life, the arts would be an outreach, an escape, my
savior… without it, I didn’t know how to channel my emotions, which left me feeling very low, and at
times depressed. It made me realise how much I needed stimulation and motivation, especially from
other creative people to keep me inspired, even more so as I had now the daunting task of finding a
new job. Eventually, as restrictions were eased, I got a temp job at a school, and being surrounded by
people once again, back in the hustle and bustle of this crazy world, gradually my flame was re-kindled
once more! Sharing stories, communicating and listening to others propelled me into the warm and
reassuring realisation: I am not alone! Collaborating and sharing with others is a huge part of creating
art, and without like-minded people, art simply wouldn’t exist.
I am blessed to be working with a fantastic creative team and cast, who have really saved my artistic
soul from burning out. I cannot wait to share my play, ‘I Remain’ to the city and people of Manchester!
