MEET
NANCY
Owner of Nancy's Fresh
Fruits & Vegetables at the
Grand Bahama Farmer's
Market
The Grand Bahama Farmer's Market
has been a hub for Bahamians and
visitors alike to purchase fresh produce
and authentic Bahamian dishes for a
number of decades. Long time vendors,
like Nancy, have become well known
fixtures at the downtown produce
market, and after nearly 30 years, she
still loves meeting new people.
Nancy’s mother, Gladys Bridgewater,
was a talented straw artisan and one
of the original vendors at the Nassau
Straw Market. When the family moved
to Grand Bahama, she began selling
fruits and vegetables. While Nancy took
a keen interest in the produce trade,
her younger sister, and eventually her
niece, would continue to keep their
mother’s passion for straw work alive.
While Nancy may not make straw art,
she still utilizes her artistic talents.
“This is my passion; my dear love,” says
Nancy. “I was taught that a picture can
paint a thousand words. I am very
colorful in my display, because it
means so much to me to incorporate a
bit of myself and my style in how I
display my fruits and vegetables.”
