The 8 fluffy pups were a clear mix of different
breeds, much like all potcakes on the island,
but they were all bright eyed, inquisitive, and
eager to give cuddles.
Since then, Fortune and her babies have been
with Carmel and Don. As much as the couple
would love to keep all 9 potcakes, that isn't
possible. They are ensuring that they have
ample time with their mom, and have been
following guidelines to ensure that they all
get their proper care and shots before being
rehomed.
Fortune and her babies were able to have a
happy ending, and the Humane Society is
hopeful that they can help the 1000+ animals
that come to their shelter, each year, to do
the same. While the team there often gets
attached to the animals in their care, it is the
Humane Society's mission to connect each
animal with a human that can love, adore and
provide proper care for them.
According to Tip Burrows, Executive Director
of the Humane Society of Grand Bahama,
they welcome the support of animal lovers
who are seeking to adopt or want to
contribute to the ongoing efforts of HSGB.
“On average, for the last 10 years, we have
gotten about 1,100 dogs and cats, each year.
The more support we can get, the more that
we can do [to assist as many dogs and cats
as possible].”
Residents and visitors alike are able to adopt
potcakes and cats from the Humane Society
by
visiting
www.humanesocietygb.org.
Domestic adoptions require a $50 adoption
fee (which is used to fund the ongoing efforts
of the organization), a vet reference, and a
home inspection. For international adoptions,
the GB Human Society works in conjunction
with their regional rescue partners to ensure
that adopted animals are going to a home
where they can be well taken care of.
