HHLE Property Matters Autumn Winter 21 - Flipbook - Page 14
In recent months business has been brisk, and so far this year we have seen
a record number of sales, thanks to the great teamwork in our office! The
only issue that we are now facing, is that our available housing stock is
diminishing and there is not enough property available to sell or rent.
Kendal is a busy market town and is a highly desirable place to live, proven
by the recent vote, naming Kendal as one of the top ten places to live in
England. Kendal’s geographical position means that commuting is relatively
easy to many of the UK’s big cities, enabling rural living whilst maintaining
job status, and of course there is the convenient access to the beautiful Lake
District National Park and hills.
Since the ease of Covid restrictions the area has been given a real lift, with
more people able to visit. Situated just eight miles south-east of Windermere
and 19 miles north of Lancaster, Kendal is the home of the famous ‘Kendal
Mint Cake’, known to hikers and climbers far and wide. Renowned for the
‘yards’: fortified alleyways and lanes branching out from the main street, and
Kendal Castle which belonged to the Parr family, made famous by Catherine
Parr who was Henry VII’s sixth wife, there is plenty to see and explore.
The area has much to offer in the way of properties, aside from the Kendal
based houses there is the rural community comprising farms, smallholdings
and rural properties, all are currently marketed by H&H Land & Estates.
Demand for property is higher than we have seen for a long time, and it
is a challenge to keep up with this demand. More and more people are now
working from home and are choosing to start a new life away from the city
in the Lake District, with beautiful, rural surroundings. We have also seen an
uplift in the number of people looking to retire here. This desire for what is
perhaps a slower pace and a more rural way of life, has resulted in property
prices rising in all the surrounding areas.
In recent weeks, as fewer houses are coming to market and market
appraisals have slowed down, those properties which are coming forward are
receiving more viewings. Resulting in rising property prices.
As estate agents in Kendal, we see a huge selection of properties and we
often get the opportunity to market some particularly quirky property types.
This can range from town houses to terraces, rural lifestyle smallholdings to
sizeable family homes, as well as traditional Cumbrian cottages. At H&H Land
and Estates Kendal office, we have a team of knowledgeable staff with many
years’ experience between them, who have seen it all.
