Mental Health
Challenges And Solutions
Companies now need to take a much more active role in the physical and emotional health of their employees.
Sudden illness, lockdown and quarantine measures could upend traditional ways of working, working hours and
childcare plans.
Emotional wellbeing will be key to workforce resilience. Managers should become accustomed to holding non-work
related chats with their staff and be approachable. They should remain fully aware of the current situation for each
member of staff, their duty of care and how to proceed if they identify any issues.
Consider which interventions might help at different stages, such as access to mental health tools for all through to
availability of counselling for employees who are struggling. If you can, look at company wide subscriptions to
meditation and wellbeing tools and encourage employees to use them regularly.
Even if employees are working to a different schedule than they would when office based, routine is vital.
Encourage them to structure their day and keep to regular breaks and exercise. Lots of charitable events, such as
cake and coffee mornings, are still taking place online. These could provide a regular time for teams to get
together, especially if they don’t know each other well or share few common interests.
