Remote Working
Any employee that doesn’t require specialist equipment and isn’t carrying out an important function that must be
performed in the office, should be considered for remote working. In the event of further lockdown, businesses
who are already allowing employees to work remotely or have put in place the capability to do so, will find that
their resilience to further challenges is much greater.
Productivity at home can even improve compared to the office. Without time spent on commuting and office
distractions, workers are likely to have better concentration and feel better rested and healthier as they work. Talk
to your employees and encourage honesty about any issues they might have with distractions at home to see if
there’s anything that you can do to help.
One of the great advantages of remote working is the ability to work at a time that complements other home
commitments and leisure time. If teams need to be available to each other, agree core hours collectively and allow
workers to put forward their own ideas on how their working hours can best reflect the needs of your business.
Remember that they still need adequate time to fulfil home and family commitments, some of which may have
changed a lot over the course of this year . It may be that allowing staff to work to different schedules, or flexibly
around core hours, will alleviate any problems they are facing with distractions at home.
