Algeria legislated on data protection in 2018 with Law
No. 18-07 of 25 Ramadhan 1439, corresponding to 10
June 2018 (“Algeria DP Act”), on the Protection of
Individuals in the Processing of Personal Data. Almost
four years later, the chairman and the members of the
National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data
(“National Authority”) were appointed pursuant
to Presidential Regulation No. 22-187 of 17 Chaoual
1443, corresponding to 18 May 2022. The National
Authority is now operational.
L’Algérie a légiféré en matière de protection des
données avec la loi n° 18-07 du 25 Ramadhan 1439,
correspondant au 10 juin 2018 (« Loi algérienne» ),
relative à la protection des personnes physiques dans
le traitement des données à caractère personnel. Près
de quatre ans plus tard, le président et les membres
de l’Autorité nationale de protection des données
personnelles (« Autorité nationale ») ont été
nommés en vertu du décret présidentiel n° 22-187
du 17 Chaoual 1443, correspondant au 18 mai 2022.
L’Autorité nationale est désormais opérationnelle.

Further to the enactment of the Data Protection
Act, 2018, which provided for the creation of the
Information and Data Protection Commission,
decisive moves were made towards the establishment
of this institution in 2022 with the appointment of
Ms. Kepaletswe Somolekae as the Commissioner. The
authority is not yet operational it can be expected to be
running by the end of 2023.
Suite à la promulgation de la loi sur la protection
des données de 2018, qui prévoyait la création de
la Commission de la protection des données, des
mesures ont été prises, en 2022, en vue de la mise en
place de cette institution avec la nomination de Mme
Kepaletswe Somolekae au poste de commissaire.
L’autorité n’est pas encore opérationnelle, mais on
peut s’attendre à ce qu’elle le soit d’ici la fin de 2023.
