ST HELENS x HOMOTOPIA
TUESDAY 3 NOVEMBER, 5.30PM
AMY PENNINGTON
4.3
ONLINE / FREE / heartofglass.org.uk
Before HD, 4:3 was standard TV ratio. Growing up queer in the
1990s, under Section 28 and in a small northern town, it was
Amy’s ratio – a limited square portal into a queer education.
From Willow and Tara in Buffy to Ellen (coming out) on Oprah,
TV’s few queer characters were sought out by a young Amy to be watched and studied.
In 4:3, Amy explores re-performance as a form of
remembering TV’s naff, but precious moments. Accompanied
by a one-off online workshop exploring memory, queer idols
and representation.
4:3 is part of Queer Company, an arts project with young
people in St Helens, produced by Heart of Glass with St
Helens Council’s Arts in Libraries Programme (Cultural Hubs).
