Charity of the Month - May
Christian Aid
10th – 16th May is Christian Aid week
“I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me
something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and
you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison
and you visited me.” (Matthew 25:35-36.)
Christian Aid is a global movement of people, churches and local
organisations.
Christian Aid believes that everyone is equal in the sight of God. For over 75
years, they have worked with our most marginalised global neighbours, of all
faiths and none.
“Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of their dignity
and lets injustice thrive.”
The charity seeks to eradicate extreme poverty by tackling its root causes.
Together with people living in poverty, Christian Aid speaks speak truth to
power and creates lasting change.
When people go hungry, yet there is food enough to feed them, then
something is wrong. When people are poor at a time when there has never
been more wealth, we must ask why and who is responsible, and campaign
for leaders to change their policies.
Christian Aid is never party political but is interested only in pressing for
policies that can best help the poor – not who in makes them.
Funds spent overseas are not wasted as a result of corruption. Money
donated goes directly to the people working on the ground – and not to
governments. That way, corrupt governments can't misuse the funds.
