We’ve invested £1m in the prevention of
vulnerability, focusing on four key priorities
that our communities told us matter most:
Mental
Health

Social Isolation
& Loneliness

1 Domestic Abuse
2 Mental Health
Anyone can be a victim of domestic abuse and
exiting abuse is harder for people living in rural areas.
Mental health issues are widespread,
yet often hidden.
As part of our Inspiring Communities programme, we have
funded the Daisy Programme, based in Breckland, to recruit
a Community & Early Help worker to work with survivors of
domestic abuse and help them take the next steps in their lives.
Mental health problems are the largest single cause of
disability in the UK, and 1 in every 4 adults experiences
at least one diagnosable mental health problem in any
given year. We’re tackling these issues by working with
key partners to deliver bespoke projects:

The Breckland Mental Health Community Partnership
(BMHCP)
We are working with Norfolk’s leading mental health
service providers – The NSFT Wellbeing Service, and
Norfolk & Waveney MIND, as well as the charity YANA
(You Are Not Alone), to build a network of 250 Mental
Health Community Champions through Mental Health
education and awareness training.
Mindful Towns / Mindful Villages
In endeavouring to reduce stigma and make Breckland
a ‘Mindful District’, we will use the BMHCP to facilitate
our communities to aspire to achieve ‘Mindful Town’
or ‘Mindful Village’ status through the offer of Mental
Health education and awareness training, and
opportunities to develop mental health focussed
community activity within their local areas, coordinated
by Mental Health Community Champions.

Breckland YAB Mental Health Project
Recognising the challenges young people face
in accessing mental health services and the risks
associated with longer wait times, we have funded a
partnership project with the Breckland Youth Advisory
Board (YAB) to provide a holding support offer to the
families of young people in the district awaiting access
to clinical services.
