Internal Verifiers
iPowerboat Ltd currently has one Internal Verifier, Ryan Tozer, who will internally verify all courses.
Ryan has worked as an RYA Powerboat, Motor Cruising, Navigation, VHF communication, Sea
Survival training for over 10 years. Specialising in the commercial industry, Ryan has trained over
5000 commercial seafarers to a variety of levels and skill sets, and has worked alongside some of the
largest aquaculture companies in the world. Ryan’s knowledge of commercial maritime training is
high level and well respected within the industry.
The criteria for any additional internal verifiers would include the following:
Proven record of holding a position which carries a high degree of responsibility,
Experience of being organized and showing attention to detail,
Ongoing staff development.
Any new assessor/verifier working toward their award must achieve within 18 months of starting to
practice.
Internal Verifier Requirements
All new assessors will be required to have the following experience to be eligible to deliver courses
at iPowerboat Ltd;
Experience delivering navigation training courses in the maritime sector.
Experienced in the use of electronic chart plotting equipment.
Experienced in the use of modern radar equipment.
L&D11 Internal Verifier award
iPowerboat Ltd will keep staff updated with developments in the commercial maritime industry.
Units maybe need to be adapted accordingly in line with developments which will be conducted in
liaison with the SQA in accordance with their criteria.
2.2 Induction training for assessors and internal verifiers
A signed record of the induction process will be kept for each staff member. The induction will
include a discussion about the Policies and Procedures highlighting the following areas: what
information the candidate is told (assessment process, internal appeals etc – please see candidate
induction checklist 3.1), malpractice, internal verification procedures, conflict of interest, secure
storage and transport of assessment materials and retention policy for candidate assessment
evidence and records.
A copy of iPowerboat Ltd Policies and Procedures will be given to each staff member. Once the staff
member is happy, and they understand all areas and have had all questions answered they will sign
the induction sheet confirming this.
