Charity kniers bring smiles to
Peterlee care home residents
Bears, jumpers, shawls, and knied dolls
are among the items donated to a
Peterlee care home by a kning
iniave.
Knit for Peace UK donated the gis to
Bannatyne Lodge Care Home, on Manor
Way, bringing smiles to the elderly
residents.
Derek Bes ord was delighted with his
new blue jumper, and Janet Clarke was
happy to cuddle a rainbow coloured bear
and two knied dolls while staying cosy
under a warm shawl.

Margaret Barresford loved the bright
yellow bear with a mulcoloured bow e,
which matched a shawl also gied to the
residents.
Dawn Minto, acvies coordinator at
Bannatyne Lodge Care Home, said: “The
donaons have gone down a treat and
have brought so many smiles and
interacon with the residents.
“We’d like to say a massive thank you to
Knit for Peace UK for thinking of us.
Hopefully we will be able to contribute to
the charity’s good work in future by

Knit for Peace UK is a Charies Advisory
Trust iniave that promotes kning as a
fun and therapeuc acvity while also
distribung hand knied items from its
20,000 volunteer kniers.
Dame Hilary Blume, the founder and
director of the Charies Advisory Trust,
said: “Here at Knit for Peace we believe
that kning (and crochet) is good for
people. As well as being fun and
therapeuc, kning brings people
together and gives a way of helping
others in need, providing benets to both
the knier and the recipient.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, we have
been able to send yarn and needles to
care homes, homeless hostels, mental
health charies, community groups, and
those isolated at home.
“We have also been distribung hand
knied items to those in need; the
kning was donated by our 20,000
volunteer kniers. To learn more about
