LOOKING AHEAD
Things to come
hinfield Parish Council has a Major Projects
list that now has 27 projects. Over the last
12 months, we completed 10 projects for the
benefit of the parish. Looking forward to when
lockdown is eased or completed, we have the
following list of planned actions:
S
• A grand opening of the new Spencers Wood
Pavilion
• A commemorative bespoke VE75 bench for
School Green
• New Benches and “Chatty Benches” in
appropriate locations in the parish
• Picnic tables in our newly acquired Open Space
opposite the Deardon Allotments and running
down to Footpath 17.
• Tiered planters in appropriate places in the
parish
• Erection of signposts on our footpaths to assist
in navigating the footpath network
Council meetings are now through Zoom
technology. Residents are still welcome to ask
questions at the start of the meeting and should
ask for an invitation to the Zoom meeting from the
clerk. Full instructions are in the agendas which

Things to do during lockdown
In addition to entering the competitions run by Shinfield Parish Council, why not take time out to
follow our set walks through the parish? The walks can be accessed through this link:
https://shinfieldparish.gov.uk/leisure/local-walks/
All our open spaces and carparks are open to allow you to exercise. The SANGS are also available for
walking and exercise. Unfortunately, due to the government guidelines, the children’s playgrounds
cannot be opened.
Keep safe
During lockdown, many are going online to stay in
touch – both children and adults. Sadly, criminals
are using these extraordinary circumstances as a
way to exploit and target young people online.
Thames Valley Police have seen an increase in
reports of online abuse towards children since
movement restrictions were introduced, and urge
parents to take this opportunity to have honest
conversations about online safety with their
children and to review privacy settings on the
apps and social networks that they are using.
The National Crime Agency’s Child Exploitation
and Online Protection division are producing
fortnightly activity packs to help discuss staying
safe online with your children. These ageappropriate resources, containing two 15-minute
activities for each age group, can be found at
www.thinkuknow.co.uk
Shinfield Parish Council are always open to suggestions on what
we can do to improve the parish. Please feel free to give us
suggestions via post, email or call the office.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF SHINFIELD PARISH COUNCIL
I
t is great for Shinfield Parish Council to be
able to support this bumper edition of Loddon
Reach magazine in these difficult times. We
hope that this electronic magazine will reach
its traditional readers as well as all the new
residents of the parish. The parish council,
churches and other groups are working hard to
support our residents. I am also pleased that
we are able to tell you about the progress in
replacing Spencers Wood Pavilion and some of
the other projects we are developing.
And remember that all of the Parish Councillors
and staff are here to help during these difficult
times.
Andrew Grimes
