Autumn Conference 2021 - timetable for paperturn - Flipbook - Page 17
STRATEGY:
How do Greens communicate to win over
more voters? (members only)
FRINGE:
Climate Justice and Reparations
Greens of Colour
Polling shows that there is a large number of voters
looking for a new home and many are open to voting
Green at the next General Election. But how do we
communicate if we are to win over those ‘Green
considerers’?
‘Stop the Maangamizi’ campaigners along with
activists and academics from around the world will
share their thoughts on how and why planet repairs
should be central to the narrative when trying
to tackle the climate emergency if we are to be
successful.
This session, run by our Chief Executive and Senior
Managers, will explain how all this links to our political
strategy, what the research says and how we can act
on it.
FRINGE:
Getting transport to zero carbon where policy meets practice
The session will look at putting policy into
practice with real examples of elected Greens and
campaigners getting transport to zero carbon. We’ll
look at:
Saturday 17.30-19.00
PANEL DISCUSSION:
The Forgotten 70%: the crucial place of
oceans in climate and biodiversity
• Responding to the local challenges of embedding
walking and cycling measures introduced during the
pandemic.
• Campaigning for a reset of the £100bn roads
programme - the carbon case for a radical shift in
longer-distance travel (speaker: Ralph Smyth)
• Exposing the gaps in government’s aviation and
freight decarbonisation plans
With deep sea mining threatening to destroy parts
of this planet of which we are entirely ignorant,
growing understanding of the many other threats of
environmental destruction, and so many beautiful and
amazing creatures from which we could learn, the
Green Party needs to take a leading role in protecting
our oceans. Learn about what you can do.
Since 1980, we’ve lost over 35% of our seagrass
meadows - 2 football fields each hour, a rate of loss
is equal to that of coral reefs and rainforests. In less
than two years uncontrolled seabed mining could
begin, and the UK government recently abstained
from voting at the IUCN World Conservation Congress
on the motion for a moratorium on deep-sea mining.
Yet there’s a big greenwashing effort on to claim this
extractive destruction is needed for renewable energy
installations. Get the facts.
