Autumn Conference 2021 - timetable for paperturn - Flipbook - Page 19
Sunday 12.30-13.30
LUNCHTIME FRINGE:
Our next steps to real democracy
Most people want to take urgent action on the
climate and ecological emergencies. But we’re
hurtling towards tipping points that could lock us
into the worst-case scenarios because the political
system is stacked against us. Without Proportional
Representation (PR) our survival is at risk - along
with the planet, equality and peace. Despite 80% of
the Labour membership voting for the party to support
PR at conference, the vote fell.
What do we in the Green Party want to do next to
make sure we get equal votes and real democracy in
time to survive?
MEETING:
“We’re still Europeans”:
bring your own lunch social
An opportunity for all pro-european Greens, or those
interested in why a Green Party is a pro-Europe
party, to gather and meet like-minded friends and
colleagues, and to discuss the way forward in an
informal way. There will be an opportunity to meet a
few of the existing core members of the new EU policy
working group, and to find out about ways in which
you could get involved in its activities or as an adviser
on some particular area where you have expertise (e.g.
trade, human rights, international affairs, research
and knowledge exchange, freedom of movement,
regulation in agriculture and environment, Northern
Ireland protocol etc.). Bring your lunch. We’ll mainly
have informal time to meet each other over a bite to
eat and drink. You can sign up to be included in future
work on this project. (If you can’t come, but would
like to be involved, please contact
catherine.rowett@greenparty.org.uk).
