The Green Party Regional Council Appeals Sub Committee
has considered 3 appeals since Spring Conference 2021,
with a further 1 appeal to be heard at time of writing:
•
10 March 2021: Appeal against a Disciplinary
Committee suspension imposed in September
2020. Appeal dismissed and suspension period
extended;
•
14 June 2021: Appeal against a Disciplinary
Committee suspended suspension in January 2021.
Appeal dismissed;
•
28 June 2021: Appeal against a Disciplinary
Committee upholding of a complaint (discharged
without sanction) in March 2020. Appeal upheld.
The Complaints Manager wishes to put on record her
thanks to all members involved in the disciplinary and
mediation processes at a national, regional and local party
level. The volume of complaints received over the past year
has increased considerably, increasing the demands on all
those involved in the process.

STANDING ORDERS FOR PARTY
DISCIPLINE
INTRODUCTION
Under Standing Orders for Party Discipline (SOPD) 8.1, the
Disciplinary Committee Chair may review these Standing
Orders and the Disputes and Complaints Process, and any
proposed revisions will then be presented to the GPEW
Annual Conference by the Chair of the Committee for
approval. The proposed revisions to SOPD were agreed by
a majority vote of the full Committee.

The revisions are designed to make the flow simpler,
timings less rigid, the system fairer, and so less stressful
for all concerned: complainants, respondents, staff, the
Disputes and Complaints Referral Group (DCRG), the
Appeals Committee and DC.
For the benefit of seeing the proposed revisions in context,
the entire SOPD is included below, and section headings
emboldened.

STANDING ORDERS FOR PARTY DISCIPLINE
1. Party bodies and personnel responsible for
Party Discipline
1.1 It is expected that all members of GPEW are aware
of the Constitution, that they are expected to abide
by the Code of Conduct and that their behaviour can
reflect on the reputation of the Party. Any member
who has a concern about the behaviour of another
member should follow the Disputes and Complaints
Process 1 available on the members website. The
Complaints Process 1 shall be reviewed annually by
GPRC. Complaints and disputes should be managed
and resolved at the lowest possible level within the
