MY LORD HAS GONE AWAY
(Kevin de Las Casas / Media Hebrides)
I was never one so free
as when I layed my burden down
layed my burden down
down upon the ground
lay my burden down, lay my burden
down
down upon the ground
I, the smallest of His friends
will sail His ships at sea
sail His ships at sea
till we all come home to land eventually
sail His ships at sea
till we all come home to land eventually.
The Chorus
And my Lord has gone away
my Lord has gone away
he has gone beyond the vision of my eyes
and my Lord has gone to stay
and my Lord has gone to stay
he has gone beyond the vision of my eyes
Wait, I hear Him call me now
I hear Him call me still
across the mists of time he calls me still.
‘sail His ships at sea’. The image here is of a ship at sea gathering up the lost and lonely
so that we may all cross together.
Absolutely no one goes first. (*26)
Like the Bodhisattva vow roughly interpreted ‘I will remain in the world of illusion for
the benefit of all beings until such time as we are all free and we will go together. Even
though I am able to enter the place that is free of suffering and illusion still I chose to
stay behind for the benefit of all beings’.
NOTE (*26). ‘no one goes first’. I have concern with the rapture and Revelation. How
could we ever leave our own people behind? Like its a big test about how good you have
been. If your name is on the list. Its horrible and what it does is horrible. It stunts
people’s development. Better to live and have some courage for the sake of humanity. If
thats what it is, I’m staying.
