Brian and Catherine Scowcroft, 1936 Chevrolet Fangio Coupe
Graham and Marina Goodwin and their 1927 Bentley 4½ Le Mans
cacti marching from the hills right to the water’s edge. After
the cool start this morning, the sun burnished away the
morning clouds and by midday the mercury made it all of
the way up to 44°c. There can’t have been many crews who
didn’t think of pulling over for a cooling swim.
once we reached loreto their prayers were answered. The
rally cars were afforded the privilege of parking alongside
the seafront, right outside la Mision Hotel. Here there was a
well-stocked beer fridge and a very inviting swimming pool.
However, not everyone could dive straight in, there was
some work to be done in the car park. rebuilding the brakes
of Brian and Catherine Scowcroft’s Chevy was top of the list.
Sadly, Jim Gately‘s Cadillac, which has seen so much of the
sweep crews recently, gave up the ghost soon after leaving
the regularity. Jamie Turner and russ Smith were only a few
minutes behind and towed the big old bus into the nearest
town to await a flat-bed truck.
