Today we toured Mull, a small island certainly, but
one with some big landscapes. Other than another
quick Test around the grounds, the primary focus
of the morning was getting the rally to the Calmac
ferry terminal in Lochaline for the short passage
to Mull.
Luckily, it was a flat calm crossing, any hint of a swell might
have proved tricky for some because, once again the well
stocked wine cellar had taken something of a hammering
last night. And in fact, according to one or two reports, the
revelry had actually spilled over into the early hours.
After safely negotiating the Sound of Mull, the Rally
made landfall in Fishnish harbour and sprang straight into
action with two Tests in quick succession ably abetted by
the members of the Mull Car Club.
One Test was slightly comedic, and one was more
traditional. Both however involved fine motor control,
teamwork and some advanced hand / eye coordination.
Then it was time for a little sightseeing, with a drive along
the coast and on through the brightly coloured harbour
town of Tobermory, to a much needed coffee halt and Time
Control in the Glass Barn, Cheese Farm and cafe.
The next Regularity lay over a set of rain soaked hills just
beyond the little town of Dervaig and it featured a long,
and at times steep climb. For some of the cars - on some of
the corners - traction was in short supply but, with some
judicious feathering of the clutch and a little extra throttle,
they all managed their climb into the clouds and then down
towards the wild Atlantic coast.
Lunch was another excellent affair, and today we dined at
the Calgary Arts Cafe. After checking in at the Time Control
the rally enjoyed soup and quiche only a stones throw from
the white sandy beach. The sweep crew of Andy Inskip
