and Jack Amies had to wait a little longer for theirs as
they attended to Andrew Laing and Ian Milne’s Datsun. A
faulty windscreen wiper motor had been hampering their
progress and, on a day like this, it was one component that
they needed to rely on.
Whilst there was plenty of water sloshing around, fuel is
a more scarce liquid in these parts. So, it pays to keep an
eye on the level in the tank. Gauges however are not 100%
accurate so, ever the old school aficionado, Keith Ashworth
produced a dip stick, plunged it into the Jaguar’s open
filler cap before declaring that all was well with the supply.
Another long Regularity through the very heart of the
island led the crews to an epic coastal section and then a
Time Control at Tiroran, where we were the guests of the
Whitetail Gin distillery, perhaps to rebalance the equation
after yesterday’s foray into the world of whisky.
A Passage Control at Duart Castle and last quick Test at
the Garmony Rugby Club was the final hurdle for the rally
to clear before heading to Fishnish and boarding the ferry
back to the mainland.
Laudale House and its staff have been excellent hosts,
and tonight - sadly our last - was shaping up to be one to
remember. Tomorrow may only be a half day but a look at
the schedule tells us that there’s still a lot to be enjoyed.
