Day 4
Laudale House - Cromlix (134 miles)
25 June 2021
Laudale’s hospitality has been nothing short of superb so,
for all of us pulling away from Loch Sunart and onto the
Corran Ferry, leaving Ardnamurchan behind was tinged
with some sadness. Once back on the mainland, there was
a fast run over Glencoe to the ‘as seen in the movies’ road
through Glen Etive, where, the crews were able to act out
their very own Judy Dench / Daniel Craig Skyfall scenes
before a quick coffee in the Kingshouse Time Control.
A lovely drive along the river through Glen Orchy slowly
took the rally back towards civilisation and the last Test
of the event, just beyond the famous Green Welly Shop
in Tyndrum, gave everyone a final chance of seizing
some glory around the cones. Whatever brake pads and
tyre rubber was left after the last three days was quickly
scrubbed off here.
A meander along the southern shore of Loch Earn led
to the final Regularity, through Torlum Woods and into
Strathallan before we pulled up the driveway into the
Cromlix House Hotel and under the finishing arch.
The Organising team swung in to action with Fred
Gallagher waving the chequered flag, Loren Price presenting
the finishers award and Andy Jardine stopping the clock with
Mark Appleton close by diligently recording the final times.
No individual winners were declared in this event but,
whilst it could be argued that everyone was in fact a winner,
once the scores and daily totals had been totted up, it was
revealed that the winning team comprised Gavin and Diana
Henderson, Mike and Lorna Harrison and Ian Milne and
Andrew Laing.
Zoe Lovett took the Spirit of the Rally award for her
outright skill and determination in organising the after
dinner party games. And, as one anonymous observer
quipped “we certainly had a lot of fun but, what goes on
Laudale stays on Laudale”.

No West Highland Cloverleaf rally day would be
complete it seems without the early morning
reveille routine of a Laudale Test. And so it was
today; at 8.00am sharp the crews set off on their
last loop of the grounds. Dodging the deer, taking
in the loch front, the rough track to the boathouse,
and finally the smooth tarmac towards the gate.
