Today is International Dawn Chorus Day so,
bright and early, our murmuration of motorists
assembled in the car park and began their tweeting
and chirping with a bit of preening thrown in for
good measure.
The deep bittern boom of the Bentleys set the tone and was
followed by the higher notes of the lark like Lancia and its
less common Italian cousin the Lamborghini. The rest day
had been a good one, but this morning the rally was keen
to get going and, depending on their aspirations, some
crews were also looking to ruffle a few feathers around the
leaderboard.
From the Parador we had a long pull across a vast rolling
plain of alternate ochre brown and vivid green fields to a
Passage Control at a Repsol station in Lumbrales. It was
Sunday morning and, as the villages rolled by with no other
traffic to bother us, we couldn’t help notice that signature
easy feeling. The first Regularity shook things up a bit
running through the dramatic gorge of the Rio Huebra. It
