This was set to be a busy day. One Test and three
Regularities would shoot the rally into the far North
West of Spain, through Galicia and into Asturias.
The first section for the crews to tackle was the Test at the
well hidden gem, Circuito Choqueiro. Deep in the woods
outside of Ourense, this short, sharp and ever so hilly
piece of tarmac was just what the rally needed to rouse
them from their early morning torpor. And, the on-site cafe
served up a very nice second desayuno to boot. Everyone
had great fun sliding through the corners and racing down
the straight, although Beat Erni and Barbara Mahrenholz
didn’t leave with the same warm glow as the rest of us. Their
little Sunbeam suffered a fuel problem in the chicane at the
end of the second lap and sputtered to a halt within 200m
of the finish line. Eventually rolling off the track to await the
attentions of the sweep crew, Andy Inskip and Charlie Neale,
who managed to get them going again but the same problem
would dog them for the remainder of the day.
