The much delayed - but eagerly anticipated
- 2020 Highland Thistle rally rolled into town
today. Although better known as the home of
golf and more used to drivers of a different sort,
St Andrews and its well-appointed Fairmont
Hotel proved to be well above par for this
gathering of the motoring clans.
Thirty-five crews assembled for Rally the Globe’s longest
event since the Southern Cross Safari, to enjoy five days
of epic driving, perfectly timed competition, and some fine
highland hospitality.
It was a slow start for those who’d spent the previous
night in the Fairmont but, aided by some lingering jet lag
following their transatlantic hop, Jim McLaren and Tim
Eades were up early checking tyre pressures on their Escort
having noticed some discrepancies during their measured
mile run. Similarly Chris Pike and Jeff Urbina, who’d also
flown in from the USA, were in the ‘parking lot’ sorting a
minor electrical issue with the trip meter in their Porsche.
The day before any rally start is largely given over to
paperwork, formalities, and documentation. Today was no
exception with the entire Rally the Globe team on hand to
speed the process. Covid is still a big concern so, following
best practice our medic, Dr John Llewellyn, was on hand
Preparations and scrutineering in progress...
