Day 15
Serengeti (rest day)
We woke up this morning and found ourselves
in the lap of luxury - in the middle of the bush.
Last night, after such a tough day on the road, the
drink had flowed freely and very nicely washed
down the à la carte menu offered as a change from
the buffet.
Arriving in the dark hadn’t prepared us for the panorama
which awaited us once the sun came up. Even though last
night could be described as lively, some crews were up early
to set about their rest day business.
Obviously there were real live game drives to enjoy but,
for those who didn’t want to venture beyond the hotel, they
were able to sit and watch the action from nearby watering
holes on the TV in their rooms. When it got dark the camera

switched to night-vision mode so that nothing was missed
One or two of us have yet to see a leopard, so this afternoon
a safari set out with this sole intention.
The rain might have an impact on tomorrow’s route
as there is a chance that one of the crossings could be
underwater.
There was a bit of repair work to be done over in the car
park; Keith Ashworth, for example, had to fit a new inner
tube as well as doing the usual spanner checks, whilst Dieter
and Hildegard Baumhäeckel got their exhaust straightened
out. This is also one of the last chances to get the laundry
done and, with careful planning, this should see us through
to the end.
Tomorrow we’ll set a course for the Ngorongoro Crater,
if it doesn’t rain overnight. But, if it does, there are worse
places to sit out a storm.
