sprang a leak. Rikki Proffitt and Ian Milne set to work to jury
rig the brakes well enough to get them home safely.
The Mcnerney’s weren’t the only ones to run out of juice,
Willy Van Loon’s Bentley drank its last drop within touching
distance of the finish line, but only after he’d sportingly
given away his reserve to a fellow competitor. His salvation
came from a local selling petrol by the bottle under a sign
proclaiming, “petrol for sale”! Almost joining them were
Denis and Jill Wilson, whose Rover V8 made it into the
night halt seemingly on vapours alone, on the last hill
they stalled more than once with the fuel gauge needle
flatlined. With a bit of coaxing, the carbs filled sufficiently
to get them over the line to the hotel car park.
Tomorrow is the last rest day, there are game drives
planned, but some may prefer to stay in and enjoy the view.
